On 13th of February, the Informational and educational center "Borazan", Belogorsk based UNITER grantee, under the project "Mobilize self-organization bodies in Crimea Rural Areas" conducted a seminar for activists of self-organization bodies. The aim of the training is to ensure that future leaders of self-governing bodies will challenge rural population to act on behalf of their common interests. It is planned that future organizers will empower rural population to act by developing shared relationships, understandings, and tasks which enable them to gain new resources, new understanding of their interests, and new capacity to use these resources on behalf of their interests. The organizers will work through "dialogues" in relationships, understanding and action carried out as campaigns. They will identify, recruit and develop leadership, they will build community among that leadership, and they will build power out of that community.

From 18th till 21st of May the two-way communication seminar took place in Bakhchissaray for 20 media representatives and NGOs from different regions of Ukraine. The seminar was co-organized by the Helsinki Human Rights Foundation. Public awareness of the activities and role of NGOs, local development initiatives heavily depends on the quality of information presented by journalists and media. During the development of civil society in Ukraine, it is clear that journalists need systemic knowledge about the third sector, its potential and role in the society. Vice versa the representatives of the third sector should be aware of the importance and methods of communication with the media. The participants of the seminar were very enthusiastic about the discussed topic, for instance the Director of Belogorsk Broadcasting Company "TAB-Dair” Eskender Ilyasov, who is also the head of the Borazan NGO supported by UNITER. Mr. Illyasov was impressed by the results of the seminar which motivated him to conduct similar seminar at the Belogorsk region. It was held for the representatives of local self-governance bodies and NGOs. The seminar was useful because the participants were not only able to learn new things, but in practice be interviewed about their views on the issue for radio program that airs on Saturdays at TRK TAV-Dayr. This activity was held as a part of the project carried out by Borazan NGO under the support of the UNITER.
